Greetings!
My name is Carol E. Keen and you are visiting Thundering Pyrs!!!
My journey with the breed called Great Pyrenees has been so far, one of the most incredible things in this world! Those of you who know me know that I work with another breed, the tiny Pomeranians. My regal, strong gentle guardians have saved the lives of my Poms, and many other animals repeatedly. In fact, they have protected me with their very lives. I started my work with this breed 11 years ago, and I have never regretted it or looked back! It hasn't always been easy, some rescue Pyrs have come into my life, and they can be hard to work with at times. A few new faces have come to join me, and some have gone home to Heaven, across the Rainbow Bridge. They will be forever in my heart, and forever missed, not a one of them is ever forgotten.
My first Pyr I met was not my own. I was called in to train an 8 month old, 115+ pounds male who had never been trained. He had had the run of 200 acres and was well pleased to do his own thing. That didn't last. LOL! He quickly learned so many things, with a speed that was almost frightening. I soon learned that the Great Pyrenees are the closest thing to a wolf in their free thinking, and that they are ranked as smart as a 9-11 year old human child. This special breed of dog is a free thinker. This makes the Pyr reason differently than most dog breeds, and it makes them able to be incredible Service Dogs, Pets, and Guardians. I am so honored to have dogs who aren't your average Pyrs, and who are able to do so many awesome things for so many people! This wonderful boy was not to be my foundation male, but not too long afterwards I found my foundation female. Tara guarded me with her very life, as well as the property, Pomeranians, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, pigeons, llamas, and emus. She passed her outstanding skills down through her offspring, who even today make me a very proud Pyr "Parent"!!
The future of my Pyrs looks bright, I am pleased to say! Beautiful babies are born ever so often, and they are carefully loved and cherished until the Pyrfect home is ready for them. I have kept pups longer when need be to fully train them for the duties as an LGD. (Live Stock Guardian) One of these days I might show my Pyrs. I do have bloodlines and Pyrs that are good enough to compete, but over all we tend to be more content at this time to just guard, and grow.
Welcome to my Great Pyrenees world!!!
